Online Safety & Supporting Tech-Savvy Children
Workshop with Dr Richard Hogan
🗓 Thursday 29th January 2026
🕢 7.30pm – 9.00pm

Powerstown ETNS is delighted to welcome Dr Richard Hogan for a practical and timely workshop for parents and guardians focused on online safety and supporting children in digital and gaming spaces.

Recent media coverage, including the Prime Time documentary examining children’s use of online platforms such as Roblox, has highlighted growing concerns for families and schools.

Key issues facing children and young people online include:

  • Prolonged online activity, often at younger ages
  • Supervision of online activity & interactions
  • Exposure to rage-baiting and provocative content
  • Exposure to inappropriate images and videos (sometimes graphic/ sexualised content)
  • Use of AI
  • Increasing use of racist and homophobic slurs, particularly in gaming and social media spaces
  • Normalisation of derogatory and disrespectful language online, which can carry over into everyday interactions

What will this workshop cover?

  • How children engage with online platforms, games, and social media
  • Why certain online content strongly influences children’s behaviour and language
  • How parents can support safe, respectful, and responsible online use
  • Practical strategies for setting boundaries and having effective conversations at home
  • Supporting children’s wellbeing, values, and resilience in a digital world

Dr Hogan is widely respected for his clear, balanced, and reassuring approach, offering parents practical guidance grounded in child development and psychology.

We strongly encourage parents and guardians to attend this informative and supportive evening, which will help families feel more confident in guiding children to navigate the online world safely and responsibly.
