I hope you have all enjoyed the summer break and are looking forward to your child’s next milestone – starting Junior Infants.

The class teacher for next year is Darren O’Neill. I am sure many of you will recognise him as an Irish Olympian Boxer during the London Games 2012. Darren has years of teaching experience behind him and is looking forward to starting meeting all the Junior Infant boys and girls on Wednesday! Katie Flynn is the support teacher for the class and Sharon Carr is the classroom assistant.

I have emailed parents a short Child’s Interests Survey from Darren that I would appreciate if you could complete. These forms can be emailed to darren@powerstownet.com or given to Darren when your child starts school. I have also emailed the school calendar for the year.

As part of the Junior Infant’s Induction Programme into primary school we vary the times that the Junior Infant attend for the first 3 weeks of school. This allows your child to become more comfortable and confident in the primary school setting. Please see deatils below.

Wednesday 28th August – Friday 30th August 2013:

School starts for Junior Infant pupils at 9am.

Parents are encouraged to bring children into the room and stay with them until the settle in.

Junior Infants are then collected at the classroom door at 11.45pm.

Teachers release the children. It is important that parents do not call children/take children out of the room. This allows for the teachers to get to recognise you and get to know you!

School starts for Junior Infant pupils at NORMAL TIME of 8.30am.

Children and parents can congregate in the yard together before 8.30am around the Junior Infant line (marked with a cone). When Junior Infant teacher comes out to yard, children (& parents) can follow teacher into the classroom.
