Dear Parents and Guardians,

Book Week is fast-approaching and we will celebrate with lots of events in school including our Book Fair, Character Dress-Up Day and hopefully lots and lots of reading! The theme for this year’s World Book Day is “Share a Story” and we would like to invite parents in to school to share or read a story to the children. Before we arrange anything we would like to gauge interest and availability of parents/family members as we are aware you are all very busy!

We are proposing a ‘Share a Story’ day in school on Thursday 5th March. We are inviting parents to come to school and to read or tell a story to a group of children. To celebrate the amazing range of languages spoken across our school community we are suggesting that we set up story story sessions in as many languages as possible – so we would open up the Hall to a story telling session and have areas in which parents can tell a story in whatever language they like to a group of children who speak/understand that language. We are very aware of the importance of reading to children in home languages as outlined here. We have a small number of language/bilingual books in school that we could make available to parents or you are more than welcome to bring along a book from home.

If you could let us know by completing this expression of interest form by Friday 14th February that would be fantastic. Once we have a list of available parents/guardians who can come along to read or tell a short story to a group of children then we can finalise the details.
